On 5th May 2026, the NSN Akwa Ibom State Chapter commemorated World Hand Hygiene Day through impactful outreach activities at West Itam Secondary School and Itam Primary Health Centre in Itu Local Government Area. The initiative focused on promoting proper hand hygiene practices as a key strategy for preventing infectious diseases among students, educators, and healthcare workers.
At West Itam Secondary School, the Vice Chairperson and Secretary of the Chapter facilitated an interactive session on effective hand hygiene practices. The session combined health education with practical demonstrations, allowing students to actively participate and reinforce their understanding through hands-on practice. To encourage sustained hygiene practices, the Chapter donated buckets and soap to the school, providing one set each for the senior classes, junior classes, and staff quarters. The school management expressed appreciation for the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining proper hand hygiene standards.
The outreach continued at Itam Primary Health Centre, where healthcare workers received training on hand hygiene and infection prevention and control. The Chapter also donated handwashing materials to support and strengthen existing infection control measures within the facility. The Officer-in-Charge commended the Chapter’s efforts and expressed gratitude for their continued contribution to improving public health outcomes.
This outreach underscores the NSN Akwa Ibom State Chapter’s dedication to community health promotion and its proactive role in equipping institutions with the knowledge and resources necessary for effective disease prevention.
