The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Anambra State Chapter, successfully hosted its maiden induction ceremony for newly graduated Nutritionists of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, on 7th May 2026 at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology Auditorium.
The historic event, themed “Nutrition in Human and National Development: Making it a Priority,” marked a significant milestone in the advancement of the nutrition profession in Nigeria. The ceremony served as a platform for professional networking, mentorship, and the formal integration of newly inducted Nutritionists into the profession.
The keynote address was delivered by Princess Mrs. Ngozi S. Onuora, Nutrition Specialist with UNICEF Enugu, who emphasized the indispensable role of nutrition in achieving sustainable human and national development. She highlighted the need for increased prioritization of nutrition interventions in improving health outcomes and societal progress.
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, who was represented by Prof. Jude-Kennedy Emejulu, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Nnewi Campus.
Other distinguished dignitaries in attendance included:
- Prof. Christopher O. Akosile, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus
- Dr. Justina N. Okoli, Head of Department, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and host of the event
- Dr. Charles Nkwoala, Vice President South, representing the NSN National President
- Dtn. Jane Umeugo, representing the State Chairperson, Dr. Nneka Mefoh
- Dtn. Obianuju A. Orjiekwe – Ezenkwele, representing the NSN National Secretary
- Prof. V. Ibeanu -Lecturer and the Formal Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Other attendees included professors and heads of departments from the College of Health Sciences, numerous staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University were in attendance despite the strike, NSN members from across Nigeria, lecturers from neighboring institutions, nurses, parents of inductees, members of the press, friends, and well-wishers.
In her welcome address, Dr. Justina N. Okoli highlighted the vision, growth, and achievements of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She acknowledged the contributions and support of stakeholders who have contributed to the department’s development over the years.
During the induction and oath-taking session, Dr. Charles Nkwoala delivered motivational remarks to the newly inducted professionals, noting that the ceremony represents a historic first in the history of NSN. He reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to supporting members through mentorship, professional guidance, and continuous career development.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Dtn. Obianuju A. Orjiekwe – Ezenkwele on behalf of the NSN National Secretary.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude-Kennedy Emejulu encouraged continued support for the Department and the nutrition profession, while several goodwill messages from invited dignitaries further enriched the occasion.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding students in recognition of excellence in academics and exemplary character.

The maiden induction ceremony was widely regarded as a successful and memorable event that reaffirmed the importance of nutrition in national development and demonstrated the commitment of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria to advancing professional excellence and member welfare across the country.
