The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Ondo State Chapter, joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) with a series of activities aimed at promoting appropriate breastfeeding practices.
The celebration commenced on Monday, 4th August 2025, with a live radio program on Crest FM 106.1 Akure during their popular breakfast show. Members of the NSN Ondo State Chapter used the platform to educate listeners on the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child, while addressing barriers that hinder exclusive breastfeeding.
On Tuesday, 5th August 2025, the chapter collaborated with the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) to organize a mass rally and baby show at the Basic Health Centre (BHC) Adegbola, Akure. The event brought together key stakeholders including community leaders, mothers, and health workers. Mothers enthusiastically showcased their healthy babies, and those who demonstrated exemplary breastfeeding practices were specially acknowledged.
As part of the celebration, NSN Ondo State members visited healthcare facilities across the state, engaging health workers and sensitizing mothers on proper breastfeeding techniques. They conducted one-on-one counseling sessions, organized community talks, and distributed educational messages to encourage appropriate breastfeeding practices.
The 2025 WBW activities reaffirmed NSN Ondo State Chapter’s commitment to advocating for sustainable policies, building community awareness, and ensuring every mother has access to the guidance and encouragement needed to successfully breastfeed her child.
