The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Kano State Chapter, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 29th March 2026 at the Biochemistry Department, Bayero University Kano (Old Campus). The event brought together 98 participants, all united in their commitment to advancing the nutrition profession in the state and beyond.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the gracious presence of Prof Salisu Maiwada Abubakar, the NSN President, whose attendance added great value and inspiration to the gathering. His engagement with members encouraged and renewed motivation within the chapter.
During the meeting, the State Chapter Report was presented, highlighting key activities, achievements, and progress made so far, as well as outlining priorities for the future.
A key area of discussion during the AGM was the NRCN Bill, where members were updated on ongoing efforts and the importance of continued advocacy to strengthen professional regulation within the nutrition field. This emphasized the need for collective action and sustained engagement to achieve meaningful progress.
The meeting also provided important updates on membership development, particularly the introduction and continuation of affiliate membership for ND graduates. Following the AGM, a Membership Drive Committee was established to support and coordinate membership application and onboarding processes.
In addition, members were informed about the upcoming 56th Annual Scientific Conference and General Meeting (Eko 2026). Participants were encouraged to actively prepare and contribute through abstract and paper submissions. A Conference Organizing Committee was also set up to drive participation and coordination for the conference.
The Chairperson, Saadatu Sulaiman, on behalf of the State Executive Committee, appreciates all members, stakeholders, and guests who attended and contributed to the success of the AGM.
