The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Kaduna State Chapter, observed the 2025 National Nutrition Week from 23rd to 28th November across key communities in the state. The 2025 National Nutrition Week was celebrated across Kaduna State with activities hosted at various strategic locations to ensure broad community reach.
Key activities included:
Day 1 – 25th November 2025: Nutrition Walk was conducted from Government House through NEPA Roundabout to Ungwan Sanusi and Kaduna Polytechnic, with a brief stop at the 44 Army Reference Hospital.
Government officials, partners and community members participated in the nutrition walk.
Day 2 – 26th November 2025: Community Engagement & Food Demonstration at PHC Ungwan Sanusi featuring nutrition education on local food nutrients and breastfeeding.
Day 3 – 27th November 2025: Community Engagement & Food Demonstration at PHC Sabo, focusing on breastfeeding, proper nutrition management, and the use of locally available foods. Practical sessions using locally available foods to show how families can prepare nutritious meals at low cost. Demonstrations emphasized balanced diets, complementary feeding, and food hygiene. Face-to-face engagements with caregivers, mothers, traditional leaders, youths, and community influencers.
The events spanned the entire week with continuous media engagements and community mobilization to deepen awareness on the value of sustainable nutrition.

- Traditional and community leaders from Ungwan Sanusi and Sabo communities.

The National Nutrition Week achieved significant outcomes with lasting community benefits:
a. Increased Public Awareness: About 1000 community members were engaged in the awareness walk and community sessions. Better understanding of the link between nutrition, productivity, and national development.
b. Strengthened Community Knowledge: Mothers and caregivers learned practical ways to prepare nutritious meals from affordable local ingredients. Improved understanding of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding.
c. Enhanced Collaboration: The event fostered a multi-sector partnership involving government, academia, health professionals, and community structures. Commitment from stakeholders to sustain outreach activities beyond the Nutrition Week.
d. Improved Public Perception of Nutritionists: The inaugural state-level celebration boosted the visibility of nutrition professionals. Reinforced the role of nutritionists in promoting health and preventing disease.
e. Renewed Action Against Malnutrition: Mobilized communities to prioritize nutrition, hydration, and healthy living. Reinforced the call to address stunting and malnutrition, especially as Nigeria ranks high globally.
The 2025 National Nutrition Week in Kaduna State successfully deepened public understanding of sustainable nutrition and strengthened community-level action against malnutrition. The collaborative efforts of government agencies, professional bodies, and community stakeholders enhanced the reach and impact of the events. These activities contributed to advancing the vision of a healthier, better-nourished, and more productive Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole.
