NSN FCT State Chapter Celebrates World Food Day 2025

As the world marked World Food Day 2025, the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), FCT chapter held the WFD 2025 at Jikwoyi, Abuja. The Chapter Chairperson, Major Edith Nwachinereme, said the Society is prioritizing communities where malnutrition is most severe, with the aim of promoting nutrition education and healthy eating practices. Mothers from rural communities are being taught how to make nutritious meals from locally available and affordable foods. The outreach empowered 150 mothers and caregivers, including pregnant women. Each participant received food items such as rice, beans, eggs, salt, and vegetables to encourage home practice.
The state chapter chairperson said that families should cook and eat together to build unity and improve nutrition. A malnourished family leads to a malnourished nation.
FCT Chapter, has called on the Federal Government to take urgent action against rising food prices, worsening malnutrition, and food wastage in the country. Inflation, food waste, and poor preservation practices are major contributors to food insecurity. The government was urge to stabilize prices, support local farmers, and invest in community-level food preservation.
Food security requires joint efforts from government, private sector, and communities. World Food Day is a reminder that we must all act together from policymakers to families to achieve a healthier and more productive nation.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the initiative. One participant, Esther Joseph, said she learned new, practical ways to cook balanced meals for her family, while Peace Isaiah commended the organizers for showing that healthy nutrition can be achieved with simple, affordable ingredients.
The NSN FCT Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to continuous nutrition education at rural communities, ensuring that “no one is left behind” in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
