World Food Day 2025: Community Cooking Demonstration

In celebration of World Food Day 2025, the NSN Kano State Chapter, in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) through the ENSAND project (Enhancing Access to Safe and Nutritious Diets), organized a Community Cooking Demonstration in Danbatta community to promote healthy eating.

The event, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” emphasized the importance of collective action in achieving food security and better nutrition for all. It also reinforced the ENSAND campaign message — “Healthy Families: Plant, Eat, Share Vegetables with Their Neighbours.”

The activity recorded an impressive turnout, with over 150 women and men, along with their children, participating in the event. The cooking demonstration focused on practical ways to incorporate vegetables into local meals to enhance nutrition, promote dietary diversification, and address anemia, particularly among pregnant women.

Participants demonstrated the preparation of nutritious local meals such as Miyan Taushe and Tuwo, Jellof rice, Rama salad using locally available vegetables such as potatoes, spinach, rama, tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. The session showcased practical ways families can improve dietary diversity and adopt sustainable food practices. Community women and nutrition officers wore ENSAND aprons while engaging in the cooking demonstration, creating an interactive and lively atmosphere.

The event served as a strong reminder that community-driven actions can promote healthier eating habits and contribute to building a better food future for all.
