Oyo State Chapter celebrates World Food Day 2025 with Community Action and Awareness Campaigns
In Ibadan, Nigeria on October 16, 2025. The state chapter, organized a series of impactful activities across Ibadan aimed at promoting nutrition awareness, community well-being, and the importance of sustainable food systems.
The day’s activities reflected the Society’s commitment to improving nutritional outcomes at the grassroots level through education, outreach, and support for vulnerable populations.
Key Highlights of the World Food Day Celebration:

  1. Fruit Share Initiative at UCH Antenatal Care Unit:
    Members of the Society donated and distributed fresh fruits to pregnant women attending antenatal care at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. This gesture emphasized the importance of fruit consumption as part of a 5 star diet for maternal and child health.
  2. Media Engagement on BCOS
    NSN members featured on:
    i. BCOS TV at 10:30 a.m. and BCOS Radio’s Women’s Program at 1.10pm.
    ii. Lotunlotun TV at 10:30 am and was anchored by Prof. Adepoju, Ex-officio and the Vice Chairman, Dr Deniran.
    iii. Adunbarin Radio at 1:10 pm and was anchored by the Chairperson, Dr Folasire.
    The public were educated on the theme of World Food Day, emphasizing the role of nutrition in building a healthier and more sustainable future
    Through collaboration especially at the home level.
  3. Support for Expectant Mothers: As part of its outreach, the Chapter awarded ₦25,000 cash gifts to 50 pregnant women, offering financial relief and promoting access to nutritious food during pregnancy.
  4. Member Appreciation: A lunch was hosted for all NSN members who participated in the TV and radio programs. The Chapter also provided full logistics and transportation support for members involved in the day’s activities.
    Dr. Oluyemisi F. Folasire , Chairperson of the Oyo State Chapter, noted:
    “This year’s World Food Day theme reminds us that nutrition is not just an individual choice but a collective responsibility. Through these activities, we are working hand-in-hand with our community to build a future where food security and healthy nutrition are a reality for all.”
