The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) Imo State Chapter joined the global community to mark World Food Day 2025 with a series of inspiring and impactful activities held in Owerri.
The celebration began with a radio talk show on Osizam 96.1 FM on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, where nutrition experts discussed the importance of eating healthy, building sustainable food systems, and promoting local food production.
The second phase of the event took place on Thursday, 16th October 2025, at the Under-5 Clinic of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, featuring a lively Food Demonstration Session.
During the session, participants learned how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals using locally available ingredients such as leafy vegetables, plantains, pineapples, tomatoes, and other fresh produce. The demonstration emphasized the importance of dietary diversity and home-grown foods in preventing malnutrition and improving child health.
Over a hundred women, caregivers, and community members attended the event, engaging actively with nutritionists and health workers. The food display showcased a colorful variety of local foods from vegetables to grains, demonstrating that healthy eating can be both simple and delicious.
The NSN Imo State Chapter remains committed to improving community nutrition through education, awareness, and practical demonstrations that encourage better food choices for all.
