The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Gombe State Chapter, in collaboration with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, successfully carried out a week-long series of activities to mark the National Nutrition Week 2025. The events took place across Gombe State from 23rd to 28th November 2025, reaching schools, worship centres, communities, and media audiences.
Activities included:
- Sensitization in Worship Centres
The week kicked off with targeted nutrition awareness campaigns in churches and a mosque:
On the 23rd November, sensitization sessions were held at ECWA Gospel Church (Off Ashaka Road) and ECWA Galilee Church, Tumfure.
On the 28th November, a 10-minute awareness session was delivered at Pantami Mosque, G.R.A., during the Juma’at prayer.
Key messages centred on sustainable and healthy eating, food safety, reduced sodium intake, consumption of fruits, vegetables and nuts, and the importance of regular physical activity.
- Flag-off Ceremony and Nutrition Walk
A formal flag-off was held on 27th November at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
The chapter also paid a courtesy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, where discussions highlighted the link between sustainable food systems and community health.
This was followed by a Nutrition Walk from the Ministry to the School of Nursing, Gombe. Participants engaged passersby with key messages promoting healthy diets and raising visibility for National Nutrition Week 2025.
- School Outreach
The chapter visited Kingdom Breed School, Tumfure, where students were sensitized on:
i. Sustainable nutrition
ii. How healthy eating supports learning and goal achievement.
iii. Hygiene and food safety.
The session encouraged students to adopt healthy habits early in life.
- Media Engagement
The week’s activities were rounded off with a live radio programme on Amana FM Gombe, which further broadened community awareness and strengthened public engagement across the state.
