Gombe State Chapter celebrates WBW 2025

The Gombe State Chapter of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) organized a school sensitization workshop. Wise Foundation School and Megalos International School Gombe state was visited. The NSN Gombe team sensitized the school management and parents present on the need to provide adequate support for breastfeeding mothers. Discussions also included the role of private organizations, business owners, fathers, and community leaders play in enabling a safe environment for breastfeeding mothers.

The team also conducted a workplace sensitization visit to Unity Bank, Gombe state. This was aimed at promoting sustainable breastfeeding-friendly policies in the financial sector. During the session, the NSN Gombe team engaged the bank’s management and staff, particularly male employees on their role in supporting breastfeeding mothers both at home and at work. The interactive meeting provided practical strategies to encourage and prioritize breastfeeding within the organization. Unity Bank’s management shared some of their existing supportive measures for nursing staff which included a 60 days of paid maternity leave, provision of a lactation room and crèche facilities, and one-hour reduced from their work hours.

The NSN Gombe team commended Unity Bank for these initiatives while encouraging them to continuously review and improve their support systems.

The Gombe State Chapter extends its appreciation to all school authorities, Unity Bank management, fathers, and community stakeholders who actively participated in and supported the WBW 2025 activities.
