REPORT ON WORLD HEALTH DAY CELEBRATION 2025.
The NSN, Edo State Chapter joined the global community to mark World Health Day 7th April 2025, with the theme : Healthy Beginnings and Hopeful Futures.
In commemoration of World Health Day 2025, the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Edo State Chapter, actively championed the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” through a series of coordinated and impactful events across the state.
The day commenced with a live broadcast session on Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) TV and Radio, featuring the State Nutrition Officer, Mrs. Amenze Phil, and the Assistant Secretary of NSN Edo State Chapter, Mrs. Lydia Ayankoso. The broadcast focused on “The Impact of Nutrition on Mother and Child Health,” highlighting how adequate nutrition can reduce maternal and child mortality rates in Edo State. Practical strategies for promoting safe pregnancies, healthy child development, and improved community well-being were discussed.
Following the media engagement, the leadership of NSN Edo State Chapter led by Chairman, Chief Uwaifoh; Vice Chairman, Mrs. Amenze Phil; and Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Ayankoso paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency. Productive discussions were held with the Executive Secretary and Director of the Agency on potential areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing nutrition practices and public health outcomes in the state.
The Chairman delivered an inspiring address, reiterating the importance of early-life nutrition and the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in building a healthier future. He emphasized the relevance of this year’s theme in shaping nutrition policies and driving sustainable public health initiatives.
Simultaneously, at the Ekpoma – Irrua axis, NSN Edo State Chapter hosted a Nutrition Education and Awareness Campaign at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), themed “Maternal and Newborn Health: The Role of Nutrition and Public Health Awareness.” The event featured keynote presentations by Dr. (Mrs.) Agugo A.U., Dietitian Fasinasi C., and Dr. Peter M. B., who also served as the host.
Attendees included Basic and Post-Basic Pediatric Nursing students and representatives from the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The session was marked by engaging discussions, knowledge sharing, and strong advocacy for maternal and newborn health.
The 2025 World Health Day celebration was impactful and far-reaching. NSN Edo State Chapter remains committed to advancing nutrition education, promoting healthy living, and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders for a healthier Edo State.
