NSN PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER COMMEMORATES NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK 2025

As part of activities marking the 2025 National Nutrition Week, the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Plateau State Chapter, featured on the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) for a special nutrition awareness programme. Mrs. Afiniki Igwe (State Chapter Secretary) and Mrs. Rose Bako (Public Relations Officer) represented the chapter on PRTV Express at 8:30 a.m. on the 27th November 2025, where they delivered insightful discussions aligned with the national theme, “Eat Right for a Better Life.”

During the session, they highlighted key nutrition issues affecting families and communities, including:

  1. Healthy eating habits for all age groups.
  2. Child nutrition and strategies to reduce malnutrition.
  3. Nutrition in pregnancy.
  4. Diet and male infertility.
  5. Food security challenges in Nigeria.

The representatives addressed audience questions on the significance of National Nutrition Week, the practical meaning of “eating right,” and how individuals can make better food choices using affordable and accessible options. They provided examples of healthy food combinations and suitable substitutes to promote balanced diets.

They also emphasised the importance of intentional eating, encouraging households to prioritise nutritious local foods such as fruits, eggs, soybeans, grains, and vegetables over processed or packaged alternatives. Parents were advised to choose fruits instead of sugary drinks for their children to support healthier growth and development.

In their closing remarks, they called on government authorities to strengthen the nutrition workforce across the state, stressing that every Primary Health Care facility should ideally have at least one Dietitian or Nutritionist, alongside appropriate nutrition services and facilities.

The engagement on PRTVC helped amplify the core messages of National Nutrition Week and reinforced NSN Plateau State Chapter’s commitment to promoting healthier eating behaviours and improved nutrition outcomes for the people of Plateau State.
