NSN CROSS-RIVER STATE CHAPTER CELEBRATES NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK 2025

In alignment with the National announcement designating 24th–28th November 2025 as National Nutrition Week, the Cross River State (CRS) Chapter activated a full slate of engagements designed to amplify the national theme, “Sustainable Nutrition for a Healthier and Productive Nigeria.” The chapter approached the week with a strong commitment to public enlightenment, community engagement, and visibility.

Summary of Activities

  1. Social Media Nutrition Challenge (24th–28th November 2025):

The chapter launched a daily online nutrition challenge across platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

Members shared practical, day-to-day nutrition messages covering:

i. Proper hydration, including the benefits of safe tea consumption.

ii. A dedicated “Cook With Spices” day, where participants prepare meals using common household spices to enhance flavour naturally, reduce salt dependence and benefit from the antioxidant properties of spices.

iii. Encouraging daily intake of vegetables.

iv. Promoting the nutritional advantages of incorporating seafood as affordable sources of protein and essential minerals.

This digital campaign created ongoing conversations, inspired healthier behavioural choices and helped position NSN-CRS as a credible source of everyday nutrition guidance.

  1. Radio Advocacy Programme (Friday, 28th November 2025):

A live radio session was held at the UNICAL Radio International on 103.5 FM 10:15 a.m. as the flagship public-facing event for the week. The following representatives featured on the programme:

i. Chapter Chairperson – Prof. Mary Mgbekem

ii. Chapter Patron – Prof. Nkechi Henrietta Eneobong

iii. A Chapter Member – Mrs. Ediye Tobby

iv. Chapter Secretary – Mrs. Edom Ekpenyong

The team discussed the week’s theme extensively, addressed listener questions, and emphasized:

  1. Sustainable dietary habits.
  2. The role of individual choices in national productivity.
  3. The importance of supporting local foods and indigenous knowledge.
  4. Practical family-level strategies for achieving healthier nutrition.

This broadcast significantly boosted public awareness and gave the chapter broad statewide visibility.

  1. Community Nutrition Education Outreach (Sunday, 30th November 2025):

To round off the week, the chapter delivered a nutrition awareness session to members of the Intercessors Bible Church Mission, Archbishop Archibong Archibong Avenue, Calabar. The engagement focused on translating nutrition concepts into relatable, actionable practices for households and the wider community.
The session also provided opportunity for real-time feedback from community members, and reinforced NSN’s commitment to grassroots nutrition improvement.

Outcomes and Achievements:

  1. Strengthened public awareness on hydration, vegetable intake, and seafood consumption.
  2. Increased engagement with the public through social media and radio platforms.
  3. Fostered stronger collaboration among chapter leaders and members.
  4. Improved public understanding of sustainable nutrition and its impact on productivity.
  5. Deepened community education efforts through direct grassroots interaction.

The Cross River State Chapter successfully aligned its activities with the national agenda. The week provided a strategic platform to drive impactful advocacy, strengthen community engagement, and reinforce NSN’s leadership in promoting sustainable nutrition. The chapter remains committed to supporting the national body’s vision and scaling future interventions for broader reach and deeper impact.
