NSN Ekiti State Chapter joined the global community to celebrate World Food Day 2025 at Anglican High School, Ado Ekiti, on 16th October 2025.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable food systems and to encourage students to grow their own food and eat more vegetables for better nutrition.
As part of the activities, the team conducted a school gardening demonstration, where students learned and practiced how to plant vegetable seeds using the dispersal method. They participated actively in the planting session at the school garden and were excited to see how simple home gardening can be.
To promote sustainability and encourage gardening, pepper, tomato, ugwu, ewedu, okra, pawpaw, and amaranthus seeds and seedlings were distributed to all teachers and students. They were encouraged to plant these vegetables at home to help improve household nutrition and food security.
The event also featured a keynote address on “Building Sustainable Food Systems for a Better Future – A Collaborative Action,” highlighting the role of individuals, especially young people, in achieving food sustainability.
The celebration ended on a positive note, with students expressing enthusiasm to start their own small gardens. The NSN Ekiti State Chapter remains committed to promoting nutrition education, food security, and healthy eating habits through community and school-based initiatives.
