Ekiti State Chapter Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2025

The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Ekiti State Chapter organized a series of activities aimed at raising awareness on the importance of breastfeeding, promoting supportive environments for mothers, and engaging key stakeholders.

The First Lady of Ekiti State inaugurated the official flag-off of the WBW ceremony that was held on the 1st of August at the Ministry of Health Data Bank, Ado-Ekiti. The ceremony provided an opportunity for members to engage with key statekeholders, and reinforce the Society’s commitment to breastfeeding advocacy.

On the 5th of August 2025, the General Secretary, Mr. Igbokwe Davidson, and the Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Yinka Adaramola, represented the chapter on the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) 91.5 FM. They discussed the benefits of breastfeeding, the importance of early initiation, and the creation of sustainable support systems for nursing mothers.

On the 7th of August 2025, a virtual webinar was hosted by the Ekiti state chapter. The webinar was hosted on Google meet. The session featured Professor Kayode Ajayi, immediate past Chairman, who spoke on “Prioritizing Breastfeeding.” Dr. Fumilayo Omotoye, the newly appointed Chapter Chairman, delivered a presentation on “Removing Breastfeeding Barriers.” The session was very interactive and it offered practical strategies for promoting good breastfeeding practices.

On August 8th, the team hosted another program on the Ekiti State Television (EKTV). The Total Wellbeing programme was hosted at 8:00 PM, where viewers were educated on exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continued breastfeeding up to two years or beyond.

The 2025 WBW activities by NSN Ekiti State Chapter was a success, with active participation from NSN members, government representatives, and the public.
