The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) has convened its 54th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference in Kano, Nigeria, under the theme “Navigating the Nutrition Frontier: Alternative Strategies for Sustainable Development”
This year’s conference aimed to address the pressing issue of malnutrition in Nigeria, exacerbated by challenges such as banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and climate change
The conference Discussions focused on utilizing multiple micro-nutrient supplements to combat malnutrition, Calls for collaboration with development partners to tackle malnutrition.
And Emphasis on boosting food production and educating Nigerians on nutritional food consumption.
Professor Afolabi, NSN President, led the conference, which brought together nutritionists, dietitians, food scientists, and other stakeholders .
Prof Afolabi maitained that among issues that will be delibrated includes Enhancing nutrition among infants and pregnant women, Developing climate-smart agricultural practices and Strengthening capacities for improved nutrition service delivery.
Speaking while recieving members of the society who paid a courtesy call at his palace,The Emir of Kano, Mohammad Sanusi II, commended the NSN’s efforts in promoting nutritional awareness and assured his continuous support.
Professor Hafiz Abubakar, a board member, noted the conference’s timeliness in addressing nutrition challenges.
The event provided a platform for experts to share knowledge and fine-tune strategies for sustainable development.
