The Federal government on Tuesday, 30th April 2024, unveiled the 2021 National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey in Abuja.
The report is aimed at accessing the micronutrient status and dietary consumption patterns of key population groups in Nigeria.
In attendance at this auspicious event was the President, Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Prof. Wasiu O. Afolabi who in his goodwill message, highlighted the importance of the study’s findings. He explained that understanding people’s eating habits is crucial for developing policies and programs to promote healthy eating and combat malnutrition.
The president noted that the report will be a valuable resource for policymakers, public health professionals, nutrition educators, and the food industry. It will inform strategies for improving dietary quality, food security, and targeted interventions for specific nutritional needs.
He emphasized that the survey findings will spark important discussions and guide efforts to identify areas for improvement in food access, affordability, and dietary diversity.
Ultimately, the president expressed confidence that the report will be a catalyst for positive change in promoting healthy diets and tackling food-related health issues.
At this same event, Prof. Henrietta Ene-Obong a fellow of Nutrition Society of Nigeria, received an award of recognition as the Principal Co-investigator. Joining her to celebrate this award at the event were; The President Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Mrs Beatrice Eluaka, a Fellow and Past President of NSN, Dr BD Omotola (FNSN), Major Nwachinemere, FCT Chairman, Dr James Oloyede (FNSN) and other members of FCT Chapter.
